THE WOLFMANS CURE
Lon Chaney Jr
Directed by: Erle C. Kenton
A man in jail becomes a werewolf when the full moon shines, while observed by a doctor who claims he can cure him. He later escapes and jumps into the sea, pursued by the doctor.
The werewolf attacks the doctor bur during the struggle returns to his normal self in the nick of time. The doctors operation is put to the test as the moon rises, and the man is proved to be cured.
An episode from "The House Of Dracula" which also featured Frankenstein. Like most of the Universal thrillers of the 30's and early 40's, special effects were supervised by John Fulton, who later went on to win three oscars, notably with "The Ten Commandments".
This reel features the change from man to beast, accomplished by a continuous series of dissolves of the head of Lon Chaney Jr., as more and more make-up is applied. It's difficult to imagine how else this transformation could have been achieved, and to anyone interested in special effects in the cinema, this is a worthwhile reel.
