I'M NO ANGEL

Mae West
Cary Grant
Directed by: Wesley Ruggles

After playing a small part in Paramount's "Night After Night" in 1932, .Mae West starred in "She Done Him Wrong"(1933) followed in the same year by "I'M NO ANGEL.'

The sexual innuendoes from the now famous sex goddess were probably responsible for the Hay's code which came into force the following year.

This cut down works well. Mae plays Tira, a showgirl who falls for a young, sophisticated Cary Grant, who in turn has fallen for her, but after a incident to make Cary Grant believe Mae no longer cares about him, set up by Mae's former lover who she has cast aside in her search to improve her society status, their courtship breaks down.

Mae sues Cary for breach of promise and defends herself in court, and in an 'over-the-top' performance in the dock she gets her man back, and she and Cary fall into each others arms.

There are a couple of short songs in this, and Mae uses the line 'come up and see me sometime'.

Very dated but beautifully entertaining. Very good print and sound as in most Universal releases.
