

Adoor Gopalakrish nan, one of the leading film-makers in southern India, is usually associated with socially committed pictures in the tradition of the great Satyajit Ray.
There's certainly a political element in this unusual love story set in the forties, but the main focus falls on the relationship between an imprisoned writer and a woman from the adjacent compound, who refuse to allow the wall between them to hinder their affair.
