Yves Montand	The Deputy
Irene Papas Helene, the Deputy's wife
Jean-Louis Trintignant	The Examining Magistrate

Directed by Costa-Gavras

Two of Europe's finest actors- Yves Montand and Jean-Louis Trintignant- star in this Oscar- winning political thriller about corruption in high places.

Despite being shot in Algeria and serving as a universal condemnation of totalitarianism, Costa-Gavras's film is in fact based on the murder of a prominent liberal opponent of the military regime in Greece in 1963.

As the investigating magistrate, Trintignant uncovers a vicious betrayal surrounding the death of Montand and he is increasingly under pressure to discontinue his probe.

This is a landmark, eye-opening movie for its depiction of government depravity, winning an Academy Award for best foreign film and the Jury Prize at Cannes.
