PATHE NEWS. DAVE CLARK FIVE (1964)

After their big success with the "special" newsreel "The Beatles Come To Town", Pathe tried the same format with a rival group, The Dave Clark Five. Filmed at the Royal, Tottenham, it shows the boys making up and then on stage rendering "Glad All Over" and "Bits And Pieces".

Compared with the Beatles reel this must be considered a flop. The main difference is that they generated hysteria among their fans and the editor mixed shots of the fab four with the reaction of the audience. The result was good music and atmosphere.

Unfortunately the crowd at The Royal are very docile they stand around politely and just smile - no screaming or clapping and so no atmosphere. The result is like an old sedate "Top Of The Pops" session. Commentary by Bob Danvers-Walker

Print is adequate, but the colours seem very brownish at times. For Dave Clarke addicts only.
