A DATE TO SKATE.

(1938 - d. Dave Fleischer) p.c. Fleischer /Paramount.

Popeye and Olive are out on a date. Popeye talks her into going to the roller-skating rink. After causing chaos at the rink in her attempts to learn, Olive whizzes out through the door and into the street. As she dodges in and out of the traffic, Popeye's effort to save her all fail.

Unable to locate his can of spinach he turn to the cinema audience and asks "Is There Any Spinach In The House"? A silhouette appears and hands him a tin. Popeye, his strength restored saves Olive in the nick-of-time.

An entertaining Popeye cartoon with an unusual subject matter. The animation-is very good, plenty of moving figures at the rink - though I did notice a few static ones. I liked the latter part of the cartoon best, as Olive sweeps in and out of the buildings and traffic.

Complete with the original Paramount logo and the boat opening, but the end looked rather dupy. Fairly good b/w quality with the good sound that we now expect from Dave West at DCR.

This item is unusual in that you can only obtain it if you are a member of the 'Home Cinema Society'. Full details of this elsewhere.

If you intend adding a Popeye film to your collection, then this is well worth considering.  Recommended.
