Starting with a B&W aerial shot of the 1940's Disney Studio, the humorist, Robert Benchley takes us on a tour of the Disney Studios. When he gets to the paint shop the screen bursts in Technicolor. Various departments are visited, including the multiplane camera dept where we see a brief clip from Bambi. The keen-eyed may spot a young Alan Ladd as an artist in the story dept. Also visited is the sound department where Benchley experiments with early electronic sound and finally we see a brief clip from the animated featurette, The Reluctant Dragon.
Disney's rivals, the Fleischer's, produced Mr. Bugs Goes To Town, and this is a first-class trailer for the film that was retitled as Hoppity Goes To Town in the UK. Superb animation, and some attractive songs, backed here by a sharp print (from original Nitrate Technicolor masters) and by fully-saturated colour, make this appealing to both the audio and visual senses. There is an abrupt ends to the first item otherwise it can be highly recommended.
