An excellent compilation reel containing full-length cinema trailers from 5 of Spielbergs best-remembered films.
The 'JAWS' trailer is gripping and well made using John Williams famous score to great effect. The picture quality is sharp with quite good colour, but the master material used an this item contains some of the worst negative wear and scratches this reviewer has ever seen.
An identical trailer was once available from Thunderbirds Films (part of their roll 93) and it looks as if this version has originated from the same master. It was extremely worn then, but it is even worse now.
In case there are any new collectors who are not sure what we mean by negative wear, this trailer will teach you all you need to knowl
"1941" and "RAIDERS" are both fairly conventional but good trailers with lots of key scenes from the features. Print quality of both is good with '1941' having the slight edge for sharpness and freedom from blemishes.
'E.T.' is a first rate and the picture quality is quite outstanding - some of the best you'll ever see on 8mm (in my cinema it looks every bit as good and maybe even better than 16mm).
As an added bonus for collectors, this trailer opens up with a run-down on Spielbergs career and includes clips from 'JAWS', 'CLOSE ENCOUNTERS' and 'RAIDERS'.
Finally we come to 'POLTERGEIST' and it's really worth the wait. Picture quality is very good, not quite up to the 'E.T' standard, but as an example of trailer making it's the best of the bunch.
Literally bristling with scenes from the film it must be one of the most exciting trailers around.
Please note that this is a totally different item from the one I reviewed in issue 10 of S8FR, and is much, much better.
All the trailers with the exception of 'E.T.' are masked for widescreen and the sound quality for the whole reel is very good.
You will be pleased to note that the items have been assembled in correct chronological order and apart from the 'JAWS' trailer this compilation can be thoroughly recommended.
The 'E.T' and 'POLTERGEIST' trailers alone will make this a reel you will want to run again and again. . :
