CAROUSEL

 (1956 - d. Henry King) Trailer (S9.95 + 50p p&p)
p.c. 20th Century-Fox. dist. Derann Films () -,r/5-' min col/'scope

An aerial view of the Fox studio, with the CinemaScope logo zooming out of the screen introduces this item. Darryl F. Zanuck then announces the new wonder format CinemaScope 55, and illustrates with two strips of film the difference between 35 and 55mm pictures.

This part of the trailer, right from the start - despite being projected through a 'scope lens, is masked to give the normal size picture, and when Zanuck stops his blurb, after mentioning CinemaScope 55 many, many times, we cut to some extracts from the actual movie in the full 'scope width, and this is very effective with the 'June Is Bustin' Out All Over' number, splashed right across the frame, during which the narrator draws your attention to the quality of the picture etc. etc.

The other main song featured is 'If I Loved You' and of course we get a snatch of the main theme here and there.

The quality is really excellent, almost  in the A* class, but not quite making it. The definition, sound and colour are all very good indeed, and any slight imperfections (and they are slight are built into the master used, the lab having done a first rate job on the 8mm prints and it it is good value at £9.95 (+ 50p p+p).

It should appeal not only to those collectors of musicals but also to those who like items about Lhe technical aspects of the cinema - if you like both, then this is a must. Recommended.
