CLEOPATRA

(1963 - d. Joseph L. Mankiewicz) Trailer p.c. 20th Cent Fox I.P. Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Rex Harrison,

You might find this difficult to believe, but this trailer has even more exclamation marks than in "Underwater"(!) and more captions too! Are well, it did cost a bit more to make, indeed at one time it was said to be the most expensive film ever made, and very nearly ended the Fox studio. As a trailer it works well, aided by the following captions: -

"NOW"!
"FOR THE WORLD TO SEE"!
"THE MOST WIDLEY ACCLAIMED MOST WIDELY DISCUSSED ENTERTAINMENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE SCREEN"!
"NEVER BEFORE HAS A SPECTACLE BEEN MORE CAREFULLY LAVISHED,
"STUNNINGLY PRODUCED"
"CLEOPATRA'S TRIUMPHAL ENTRY INTO ROME"!
"MIGHTIEST ARMIES OF THE AGE"!
"THE DREADED ROMAN ATTACK" (sounds like a holiday illness)
"THE FESTIVAL OF BACCHUS"!
"THE BATTLE OF ACTIUM"!
"CLEOPATRA'S FABLED GOLDEN BARGE"!
"THE SPECTACLE OF SPECTACLES"!

You get all these wonderful captions plus plenty of exciting scenes at no extra cost. It's a very good trailer of it's type, with plenty of action, and not half as boring as the film its self.

There are some joins in the master used, and the colour has faded too, leaving mainly yellow/magenta. Don't let that put you off though, you won't get a better print anywhere else and it is a good laugh.

For those of you who won't find it funny, there plenty of action and spectacle, and lets not forget Elizabeth Taylor horizontal in scope! A flat (masked, I think) version is also available.
