ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ!  (1979)

Frank Morris (Eastwood), serving a long prison sentence in America's top security prison, decides with the help of three other inmates to escape from Alcatraz. 'The early part of the film has gone altogether, this extract starting with the four prisoners discussing where to get the materials for the escape, and who is going to get them. Gone is all the detail of prison life, and the detailed build up to the actual escape. It has now become a straight forward escape film. Well I'm glad I didn't have to cut this film down because what ever you do would be inadequate in 16 minutes! It states on the box that it's selected scenes - and that's all it is. Incidentally, Patrick McGoohan appears only very briefly at the end.

Those who can't afford the 6 reeler might like to have this in their collection, there is not a great deal of Clint Eastwood material on Super 8, so you might think it's worth having for that reason alone The print is a stage removed from the longer version, it's softer and the colour is not as good, the sound seemed to be ok.

ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ was available in 400ft, 3 x 400ft and a complete feature version. It is now out of print on Super 8mm.
